Honeydew Alternative

This small anchorage is north of Honeydew Anchorage and is a good alternative in settled weather if Honeydew is occupied.  Sourounded by cliffs to the south and north, we view of Baranof to the West.

Approaches & Known Hazards

Approach notes, hazards to watch for, and what's available once you're tied up.

Don't enter from the West Entrance as it is shallow skirted by a large kelp bed.  The East entrance is well marked with drying flats and rocks to starboard as you enter.  Once inside the deepest part of the channel slowly winds into a center section and finally to the innermost anchorage.   There is a reef to the West, offering some protection which dries out.  We found depths to be consistant throughout, perhaps even more so than charted.

Nice anchorage, easy entrance and good protection although we had very settled weather. Sayed here for a few days and enjoyed getting into the skiff ot explore the many beaches and small islets. Great views to Baranof right from the boat. The tidal changes brough a fair amount of kelp on the flood.
