A roomy, well-protected anchorage at the head of Liberty Bay off the Norwegian-themed town of Poulsbo, with a friendly public marina and downtown a short dinghy ride away.
Liberty Bay is a narrow inlet reaching about four miles north from Port Orchard on the Kitsap Peninsula, ending at the town of Poulsbo. The popular anchorage lies off town near the head of the bay, just northwest of the Port of Poulsbo Marina, in calm water sheltered from the main body of Puget Sound by the bay's winding approach.
The town itself is the draw: Little Norway packs restaurants, bakeries, breweries, galleries and shops into a few walkable blocks along Front Street, all immediately accessible from the marina's dinghy tie-ups. The Port of Poulsbo offers guest moorage, a public dock, fuel and shore facilities for those who prefer not to anchor.
Holding is good over a mud bottom and there is plenty of room, making this a reliable overnight stop. In settled weather it is a delightful spot; because the bay is long and open to the southeast it can pick up fetch and chop in a blow from that quarter.

Approach from Port Orchard to the south and follow the buoyed channel northwest up Liberty Bay; the entrance and channel are straightforward but the bay narrows toward Poulsbo. Tidal current in the inlet occasionally exceeds one knot.
The principal hazard is shoaling toward the head of the bay: water shallows steadily past the marina and the northwest end gets skinny and dries on a low tide, so favor the deeper water off town and watch the sounder and tide as you work in. Mud flats fringe the head.
