Douglas Harbor sits on the Douglas Island shore of Gastineau Channel, directly across from downtown Juneau. Managed by CBJ Docks & Harbors, this 221-slip facility offers transient moorage on a first-come, first-served basis. Vessels must clear the fixed Douglas Bridge before entering the basin.
Douglas Harbor occupies a sheltered corner of Gastineau Channel on the Douglas Island side, roughly a mile southwest of downtown Juneau across the water. It is one of three City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ) small boat harbors and is operated remotely by the Aurora Harbor Office. There is no permanent harbormaster stationed on-site at Douglas.
The harbor has 221 slips spread across several floats, with most offering water and shore power at 20A, 30A, or 50A pedestals. Transient moorage is available on a first-come, first-served basis; call the Aurora Harbor Office on VHF 73 when you enter Gastineau Channel to get a slip assignment. The on-duty cell line (907-321-1115) handles after-hours urgent situations.
Getting in requires passing under the Douglas Bridge, a fixed span that imposes a significant air draft restriction. Skippers with tall masts or high superstructures should verify clearance before committing to this approach. The bridge effectively filters out most large offshore vessels and keeps the basin predominantly small-boat.
Pump-out is available on the north side of the harbor, as is a launch ramp with vehicle and trailer parking. Two fish cleaning stations serve resident and transient boaters. There is no fuel dock within the harbor itself; the nearest marine fuel sources are private commercial docks on the Juneau side of the channel (Petro Marine across from Harris Harbor and Crowley Fuels south of downtown).
Protection is generally good. Douglas Harbor faces northeast into Gastineau Channel but is tucked behind a breakwater arrangement that blocks the dominant weather fetches. Southeast storms push up the channel from the south and can generate some chop in sustained winds, but the surrounding topography of Douglas Island limits exposure significantly. Wind from the north and northwest is largely blocked by the island mass itself.
The surrounding neighborhood is quiet residential Douglas, with Savikko Park and Sandy Beach immediately adjacent. Downtown Juneau is across the channel, a short water taxi or ferry ride away, or about 20 minutes by road via the Douglas Bridge. Full provisioning, restaurants, and chandleries are readily accessible.
