About this Anchorage

Oliver Cove sits within the small, undeveloped Oliver Cove Marine Provincial Park on British Columbia's Central Coast, opening off the east side of narrow Reid Passage about a mile north of the Carne Rock light. It is a classic Inside Passage stopover for vessels working the protected inside route between Seaforth Channel and Milbanke Sound, near Ivory Island and the approaches to Bella Bella and Shearwater.

The cove is sheltered and peaceful, offering reliable all-weather protection for a handful of small boats. Most skippers tuck into the eastern sub-cove or the narrow bay along the west side, where surrounding low forested shores cut the wind and swell from nearly every direction.

The park is wilderness with no docks, mooring buoys, or facilities, so boaters must be fully self-sufficient. The intertidal zone is rich with marine life, and the surrounding shorelines, particularly nearby Cecilia Island, are known for heavy black bear activity, so caution ashore is warranted.

Local Knowledge

Approaches & Known Hazards

Approach notes, hazards to watch for, and what's available once you're tied up.

Oliver Cove is entered from Reid Passage, a narrow channel only about 170 yards wide separating Cecilia Island from the adjacent peninsula; transit Reid Passage with care for rocks and current, and expect some wake exposure inside the cove from passing traffic. The cove lies roughly 1 NM north of the Carne Rock light.

On entering, watch for a large submerged rocky shelf in the middle of the south entrance and a drying ledge on the north side of the entrance. Favor a careful, deliberate approach and refer to CHS charts 3710 and 3728. Verify depths on a current chart before committing, and consider using the cove as a staging point for slack water at Perceval Narrows to the north.

Cruising info goes stale fast — fees change, fuel docks close, hours shift. WalkTheDock stays accurate because boaters who’ve actually been here keep it current. Spot something out of date? Suggest a correction; once a moderator approves it the change goes live and you’re credited below.
