Southeast Alaska — North

Stephens Passage

The wide passage between Admiralty Island and the mainland, connecting Frederick Sound with Lynn Canal. Holkham Bay marks the entrance to Tracy and Endicott Arms; Taku Inlet is a smaller, less-famous version north of it. Admiralty Island holds one of the largest populations of brown bears on Earth — locals call it Fortress of the Bears. Pack Creek is the permitted bear viewing site on the island’s east side. Anchorages are wild and well-spaced. Stephens Passage often delivers the day’s best whale watching for boats not making it to Frederick Sound.
