Welcome aboard Fortitude, our 1991 Kadey-Krogen 54 and the last of only eight ever built. Designed by Jim Krogen, she’s a true passagemaker—stable, efficient, and built for long-range cruising. For years, we’ve called her home while exploring the Pacific Northwest and the Inside Passage.
We’re Steven and Suzanne Webster, living aboard full-time and embracing the adventure that comes with life on the water. Fortitude’s roomy layout, smooth ride, and fuel efficiency make her the perfect platform for both exploration and everyday living.
She’s also the inspiration behind WalkTheDock, a community created to help boaters connect, share knowledge, and make cruising more accessible and enjoyable. Whether we’re anchored in a quiet harbor or underway to the next destination, we’re grateful for the life this boat has given us—and the people we’ve met along the way.
See LessFortitude features a spacious and comforable salon and a large galley with extra high counters which help to make meal prep at sea easier and safer.
See LessThe KK54 has a distinctive hull shape with a rising shear line, fine entry bow and a canoe stern. She’s often mistaken for a Romsdale or Willard gathering looks and visits from fellow boaters in anchorages.
See LessFresh and bright and most importantly for an ocean going vessel, located in the lower, mid part of the ship to minimze rolling and pitching when off watch underway

As a trawler captain, few experiences are as quintessentially maritime as waiting for the right weather to cross any open water strait – in this case, the Strait of Juan de Fuca. This huge waterway, connecting the Pacific Ocean to the Puget Sound, is known for its unpredictable weather and challenging conditions. Today, nestled in the charming harbor of Port Townsend, WA, our crew is in a familiar state o…
Have you ever dreamt of leaving the hustle and bustle of land behind and setting sail on the open seas? Many people have chosen to give up their traditional lives on land in favor of living full-time onboard a boat, cruising from one destination to another. And let me tell you, it’s quite an adventure!
Living on a boat offers a unique lifestyle that brings with it its own set of joys and challenges. But for those who choose this way of life, the rewards are endless.
When we first made the leap to live aboard our boat, we knew it would take more than just moving in our belongings to make it feel like home. A boat isn’t just a mode of transportation—it’s your sanctuary, your safe harbor, and for liveaboards, it’s where life happens. Creating an interior space that feels like a true home while respecting the unique challenges of a vessel requires creativity, planning, and a willingness to adapt.

For years, we toyed with the idea of adding paravanes to Fortitude, our 1991 Kadey-Krogen 54. The thought would come up most often after a long, rolly crossing when half the two-person crew had retreated below to wait out sea sickness, leaving the captain alone on watch, to grind it out through hours of confused seas. Like many long-range cruisers, we had dreams of going farther —…
