About this Marina

Quarterdeck Marina

Quarterdeck Marina is one of the largest private marinas on northern Vancouver Island, operating as the marine arm of the Quarterdeck Inn & Marina Resort at the head of Hardy Bay. With over 1,000 feet of dock space across 134 slips — accommodating vessels from small runabouts up to 150-foot expedition yachts — it is built to handle the wide range of boats that pause here before pushing north.

The marina sits on the inner, eastern portion of Hardy Bay, which opens to the northwest toward Queen Charlotte Strait. The bay's geometry provides a meaningful windbreak against the prevailing summer northwesterlies, though a hard NW blow can still push a chop into the basin. Southeast and easterly weather finds the bay well-sheltered. Overall the anchorage is considered suitable for transient overnight stays in most summer conditions.

What sets Quarterdeck apart from every other option at Port Hardy is the full resort infrastructure steps off the gangway: 40 ocean-view hotel rooms, a restaurant and pub with a waterside patio, a beer and wine store, a marina store stocked with ice and marine hardware, and coin laundry and showers for arriving crews. The fuel dock carries gasoline, diesel, propane, CNG, stove oil, and lubricants — making it a genuine one-stop resupply point for crews heading north into the Broughtons or continuing to Prince Rupert.

Port Hardy is the terminus of the BC Ferries Discovery Coast route, and the ferry terminal at nearby Bear Cove means you may share the bay with northbound travelers and their vehicles. Town amenities — a Save-On-Foods supermarket (grocery delivery to the dock is available), hospital, and regional airport with connections to Vancouver — are a short drive or taxi from the marina.

For Inside Passage cruisers, Quarterdeck is the last well-equipped fuel and provisioning stop before the run north, and that position in the corridor defines the marina's character as much as its resort amenities do. Expect a mix of long-distance liveaboards, sports-fishing charters, and expedition yachts on the dock in summer. VHF 66A is monitored by marina staff.
