Petersburg & Wrangell Narrows

Petersburg is the Norwegian fishing town the locals call Little Norway — settled in 1897, still actively fishing, with one of the best harbors in Southeast and the cleanest, most well-organized small-town feel on the route. The marinas are full of commercial trollers and seiners; transient slips fill in summer but are doable. Wrangell Narrows — the 21-mile buoy-marked channel south of town — is one of the great Inside Passage transits, an obstacle course of red and green markers winding through tide flats. Time it for daylight and rising water. The Sons of Norway hall hosts a real little festival the third weekend of May.
